Me, wearing a hat

Me, wearing a hat

I'm an amateur photographer.

I started taking photographs around 2003. The village we lived in at that time was surrounded by agricultural fields and small woods; I would go for long walks around the fields and enjoy catching glimpses of hares and deer. I soon bought a digital camera and tried my best to snap these elusive animals. Over the months I slowly learned how to get closer without frightening them off, and I gradually taught myself how to use the camera beyond fully-automatic mode.

Over the last few years I've become more interested in landscape photography. It's such a broad discipline; there are so many different types of subject and techniques and it's so difficult to get right. But Suffolk is a fantastic county for landscape photography with so many options; miles of interesting coastline, fields, woods, rivers, villages and a hugely varied range of animals, birds and plants.

I shoot with a Canon EOS90D and I’ve got 3 lenses which together cover a focal range of 10-250mm. I use Adobe Lightroom for post-processing. You really don't need masses of new and expensive gear to take half-decent photographs. Even a crappy old camera can take good shots. The most important things to have are enthusiasm & patience, and you need to be able to get out of bed a bit early sometimes.

I’ve entered two competitions; East of England Co-op Calendar (2013) and Felixstowe Landguard Travel & Transport (2014) and was very pleased to win both. In 2016 I joined Framlingham Camera Club. We have regular competitions and guest speakers.

I'm round about 50 years old, and live in a Suffolk village with my wife Helen & son Harry. Life is good. I hope you enjoy looking at my pictures.

I used squarespace.com to make this website. It was so easy it only took 2 days. It took me 20 years to take the photos.
